Discovery Grants

Introducing:

The Impact Investment Ready Discovery Grant provides not-for-profit organisations with grants of up to $50,000 to explore pathways towards financial sustainability and plant the seed for future impact investment propositions through capacity building.

The initiative is the second part of an Impact Investing Program established by Philanthropy Australia in partnership with National Australia Bank (NAB). The Program commenced with an education focused Australia-wide roadshow of workshops on Impact Investing: Tools & Techniques for Philanthropic Funders in 2016. On this foundation, the grant program aims to support the practical application of the learnings.

Discovery Grant second round applications will open Monday 28 August 2017 and close Monday 30 October and will distribute a total of $250,000 by the end of the year.

You can see what was funded in the first round in our FAQ.

The purpose of the Discovery Grant is to enhance capacity, provide funding, grow the investment pipeline, and support sustainability of the sector:

Achieve Sustainability

Grow the Pipeline

Provide

Funding

Discovery Grants enhance the financial sustainability of the charitable sector by increasing the range of funding options available to them.

Discovery Grants increase the pipeline of high quality impact investment-ready proposals from the charitable sector.

Discovery Grants provide funds to charitable organisations to undertake a range of capacity-building activities and become impact investment ready.

Discovery Grants enhance the capacity of organisations to identify and develop potential impact investment activities and opportunities.

Enhance Capacity

Impact Investment Ready Discovery Grants address the current underrepresentation of not-for-profits in the impact investment readiness space.

Growth Grants aim to place grantees in a better position to access other funding sources – like the Impact Investment Ready Growth Grants – and accelerator programs in the future to develop strong investment proposals.
